En este curso los participantes explorarán los procesos sociales, biológicos y políticos que dan forma a la reforestación y restauración en regiones tropicales. Se ofrecerá a los tomadores de decisiones de Latinoamérica que hayan recibido una subvención para reforestación del Programa de Educación para la Naturaleza Russell E. Train (EFN) del Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza (WWF). Los participantes llevarán a cabo proyectos de reforestación con el objetivo de restaurar biodiversidad y mejorar el bienestar humano en paisajes forestales degradados. In this course, participants will explore the social, biological and political processes that shape reforestation and forest restoration in tropical regions. This course will be offered to decision makers throughout Latin America who have been awarded a Russell E. Train Education for Nature (EFN) Reforestation Grant from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). These participants are conducting reforestation projects with the goal of restoring biodiversity and enhancing human wellbeing in degraded forest landscapes. Participation is by invitation only.
Content
El curso brinda a los participantes la oportunidad de avanzar su conocimiento a través de una serie de presentaciones, discusiones, lecturas y estudios de casos. Durante la duración del curso, las tareas semanales y el proyecto final guiarán a los participantes a elaborar planes de manejo preliminares para sus sitios de reforestación apoyados por WWF-EFN. Los instructores de ELTI y expertos invitados brindarán orientación y comentarios sobre estas tareas. Este curso también proporciona un espacio para que los participantes intercambien experiencias e ideas con los facilitadores de ELTI y otros expertos invitados.
El contenido del curso se divide en seis módulos temáticos:
- Semana 1: Ecología, potencial de perturbación y regeneración en paisajes tropicales
- Semana 2: Aspectos socioculturales y políticos de la restauración
- Semana 3: Prácticas y estrategias efectivas de restauración
- Semana 4: Integración entre restauración y propósitos de producción
- Semana 5: Seguimiento de proyectos de restauración
- Semana 6: Elaboración de proyectos de restauración y reforestación
The course provides participants the opportunity to advance their knowledge through a series of presentations, discussions, readings and case studies. Over the duration of the course, weekly assignments and the final project guide the participants to develop a preliminary management plan for their WWF EFN supported reforestation sites. ELTI instructors will provide guidance and feedback on these assignments. This course also provides a space for participants to exchange experiences and expertise with ELTI facilitators and other guest speakers in weekly live sessions.
The course content is divided into six thematic modules:
- Week 1: Ecology, disturbance and regeneration potential in tropical landscapes
- Week 2: Sociocultural and political aspects of restoration
- Week 3: Effective restoration practices and strategies
- Week 4: Integration between restoration and production purposes
- Week 5: Monitoring of restoration projects
- Week 6: Preparation of restoration and reforestation projects
