NGP Monitoring Workshop

Summary

The Philippines has suffered from extensive deforestation and forest degradation leading to the decline of biodiversity and the provisioning of environmental services. To reverse this trend, the National Greening Program (NGP) was launched in 2011 with a goal to reforest 1.5 million hectares within 6 years. ELTI and other members of the RFRI have been working closely with the DENR through a partnership agreement to increase the amount of native species used, and increase the engagement of the RFRI People's Organization (POs) partners in supplying the native seedlings, and in planting and maintenance of the reforestation sites. To date, however, there has been little effective monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the program. This workshop seeks to address this shortcoming by bringing RFRI, DENR and other CSO partners together to work on the development and field-testing of a more robust M&E system.
