Participatory Workshop for the Development of an Intercultural Training Program
Summary
ELTI's new Intercultural Training Program is an initiative of the International Union For Conservation Of Nature (IUCN) and Yale University, in collaboration with the Yale Center for Environmental Justice (YCEJ). The program is aimed at strengthening processes of intercultural dialogue, territorial governance, and defense of the rights of Indigenous peoples in the Americas.
From May 26-29, YCEJ Director Professor Gerald Torres, ELTI team members David Cordero-Heredia, Nicole Israel-Meyer, and Gillian Bloomfield, together with the IUCN office of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean (ORMACC), hosted a workshop in Quito, Ecuador. This workshop was the first opportunity for the advisory committee to come together to define the objectives and design the curriculum for this new training program through participatory exercises, activities and discussions. In addition, this workshop provided the advisory committee with the opportunity to visit Indigenous groups and Ecuadorian universities to strengthen collaborations and learn from diverse perspectives.
