Summary
Learn adaptive strategies for tropical forest restoration with an emphasis on Asian forests. This online “boot camp” with a field week immerses participants in key theory and practical examples for planning and implementing restoration projects.
This course includes diverse contributions and opportunities to interact with global environmental leaders, ELTI facilitators, Yale faculty members and other ELTI partners.
This course is designed for a diverse audience, including management professionals, policymakers, mid-career practitioners and others involved with natural resource management, land-use decision-making, forest finance or landscape restoration.

Field Week
The field week, held at Visayas State University (VSU) on the island of Leyte, the Philippines, teaches participants to design, implement and monitor forest rehabilitation through place-based and experiential learning.
Day 1: Introduction to the biodiversity of the Philippines and Rainforestation
Day 2: Phenological observation of indigenous tree species, nursery establishment and seedling production
Day 3: Site assessment, establishing a Rainforestation site and monitoring
Day 4: Refining restoration plans with lessons learned from the VSU experience
Cost and Course Features
The cost of the course is $2,250 USD. This includes registration, course materials, field week expenses (double accommodation, room and board for June 17-June 22, 2019) and a certificate of completion. The course fee does not include travel cost to and from your site of departure and Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu City, Philippines.
