Sustainable and Socially Impactful Business Plan
Summary
The Sustainable and Socially Impactful Business Plan Course is offered through a partnership between ELTI-Yale, IPÊ - Ecological Research Institute, the Center for Studies in Agroecology and Organic Production Pau-Brasil (NEA-PB) of the Federal University of Southern Bahia (UFSB), through the Socio-environmental Development Project for Family Agriculture (DSAF) and the Fotossíntese Institute. This course will take place on August 8 and 9, 2024, at the headquarters of the Rural Producers Union in Eunápolis, Bahia, Brazil, with a workload of 16 hours, free of charge. A total of 20 spots will be available, some exclusive to family farmers affiliated with the Rural Associations assisted by the DSAF-UFSB Project. The remaining spots will be open to other family farmers and professionals in the region.

The conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest in southern Bahia, one of the most biodiverse and threatened biomes in the world, are fundamental due to the environmental services it provides, such as climate regulation, protection of water resources, preservation of biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. Rural producers, especially small family farmers, play an important role in this process, using agroecological practices that promote sustainability and environmental recovery. In this context, the encouragement of sustainable businesses involving products and services from the sociobiodiversity of the Atlantic Forest is essential to strengthen conservation strategies in the landscape.
The Sustainable and Social Impact Business Plan course offers tools that facilitate the development of business plans aimed at conserving biodiversity and generating employment and income through bioeconomy. It stimulates sustainable practices in family farming and traditional communities, valuing traditional knowledge. In addition, it strengthens the marketing strategies of products derived from sociobiodiversity in the market, boosting the certification process and thus contributing to the environmental and socioeconomic sustainability of the region. The contents to be explored include:
- Analysis of the productive process and the product(s).
- Sustainable production chains.
- Market study, customer segments, and forms of commercialization.
- Differentiators of sustainable and inclusive processes and products.
- Certification.
- Regularization and administrative issues.
