Kalahi-CIDDS Rainforestation Site Establishment Training

Summary

This training event was conducted under the Kalahi-CIDSS program (Philippine Department of Social Work & Development’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services program). The Kalahi-CIDSS program was designed to empower poor communities to organize themselves, analyze their own situations and prepare project proposals to address their common problems and compete for block grants to finance their projects.

Seven of the thirteen municipalities involved in the program in Cabucgayan, Biliran, decided to establish Rainforestation sites on a total of 59.2 hectares. This training event provided the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to establish their own sites with management objectives such livelihood enhancement, landslide stabilization and watershed rehabilitation.

Content

Day 1:

  • Introduction to Philippine biodiversity
  • Introduction to Rainforestation and development of a climate-resilient agroecological production system
  • Lecture on fruiting phenology, propagation techniques and nursery establishment

Day 2:

  • Demonstration and hands-on exercises on chambering and nursery management
  • Establishment of a demonstration site

Day 3:

  • Farm planning workshop and consultation with experts
  • Closing of the program
