Explore strategies to strengthen the resilience of tropical landscapes by restoring trees, forests, and ecosystem services. This online course combines basic concepts of forest restoration and agroforestry with inspiring examples of restoration in practice from around the world. Learn how to plan, implement, and manage restoration and agroforestry systems as part of a broader effort to restore tropical forest landscapes.

The course includes contributions from speakers worldwide and offers opportunities to interact with ELTI's staff, partners, and network of global environmental leaders. Expand your knowledge and build your practical skills to apply the course concepts to your own social and environmental contexts.

Content

Each week, you can learn at your own pace via videos, readings, discussion forums, and other online materials. Come together to exchange experiences and connect with ELTI facilitators and guest speakers during weekly live sessions. At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Thematic Modules:

  • Week 1:  Ecological principles and the context for forest and landscape restoration
  • Week 2:  Sociocultural and political aspects of restoration
  • Week 3:  Effective forest restoration practices and approaches
  • Week 4: Agroforestry and silvopastoral systems
  • Week 5: Climate change mitigation and adaptation

Optional project: Participants who wish to apply the concepts learned in the course to a real situation can develop an optional project. Participants who pursue this option submit a project document at the end of the course and receive personalized instructor feedback to improve their projects.
