Based at the Institute for Ecological Research (IPÊ), Erica is a forest engineer with more than 20 years of experience working with rural communities in the Central Corridor of the Atlantic Forest, promoting forest cover expansion alongside sustainable agricultural production.

As ELTI’s Field Coordinator in Brazil, she supports the implementation of ELTI’s strategy in the Brazil training landscape. She also manages the Prospera Sul da Bahia project, leading a team focused on farmer engagement, restoration and capacity building. She is Executive Secretary of the Bahia Forest Forum, a multi-stakeholder platform for sustainable forest-based development.

Erica spent 12 years in the public sector, in environmental management and rural extension. Her expertise includes environmental compliance of rural properties, agroforestry systems, participatory methodologies and agroecology. She holds a Master’s in Environmental and Forest Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and is an alumna of two ELTI online courses (2014 and 2022).

"As a former ELTI participant, I know firsthand how training can change the way people care for the land. Showing that we can produce, earn a living, and rebuild our landscapes at the same time is what motivates me every day."
